Explanation:
Según Fernando Navarro (autor del diccionario crítico de dudas inglés-español de medicina) hay que evitar utilizar diabetes mellitus. Es preferible utilizar diabetes sacarina, que en futuras apariciones puede abreviarse a simplemente diabetes.

es ló más parecido que he encontrado, aunque 'nueva diabetes sobrevenida' (supongo que por contraposición a hereditaria)sería la traducción literal, sin embargo. En la referencia tienes varios sinónimos en español.

Existen dos tipos de diabetes mellitus, tipo I (insulinodependiente, juvenil y otros), y tipo 2 (no insulinodependiente, adulta y otras).

Mi esposo es diabético insulinodependiente desde hace casi 20 años; hace 10 que lo acompaño al médico y a charlas sobre la enfermedad pero jamás he escuchado a ningún profesional que recomiende o prefiera el uso de "diabetes sacarina". En todo caso,para abreviar, "diabetes".

Con respecto a "new-onset", propondría "de reciente aparición", "recientemente contraída"
