"The more strongly positive the pictures we form in early life are, the stronger the internalized inner images *we have to* fall back on in times of distress"
which I translated as
Cuanto más marcadamente positivas sean las imágenes que nos formamos en los albores de nuestras vidas, más fuertes serán las imágenes interiorizadas a *las podremos* que recurrir en tiempos de aflicción.

Why? because... falling back on the strongest ones is suppossed to be an advantage
then is an extra-possibility we have, not an obligation (have to). Shouldn't it have been better "the inner images we *can* fall back on"

Estoy de acuerdo contigo y con Leonardo; el texto podría haber sido escrito con "we can", o, quizás, con "we will have formed... to fall back". Se refiere a la imaágenes "que tendremos formadas" o "que habremos formado" para luego recurrir a ellas.

if you use your term,it's "las QUE podremos".
I agrre:"we can fall on" is more logical in that context.But I am not a therapist, I am one of their victims.

Creo que tenemos es mejor que "tendremos" porque entonces el texto original diría "we will have" y dice "we have".
