Mi explicación va por partes
1) Según la definición que encuentro en The American Heritage® Dictionary, tengo:
sta·pes (stpz)
The innermost of the three small bones of the middle ear, shaped somewhat like a stirrup. Also called stirrup

Es decir, se trata del ESTRIBO.

2) Sin embargo, stirrup boot
se refiere una bota ortopédica para sujetar el pie en caso de lesión.
Así, en este caso de dislocación de tobillo, el tratamiento recomendado para evitar su inflamación es el siguiente:
Following surgery, the physician may apply a stirrup boot splint from below the knee to the toes. Stirrup boots are less likely to cause problems with swelling at this time than a cast may cause. This will support the ankle enough to allow you to walk with crutches, but you should not put weight on the injured ankle.
