We found that older age was one the factors identified as being associated with NI. This study agrees with the fact tha elderly patients are at a particularly high risk of developing nosomicial infection. Nevertheless, the frequency of infection remains probably underestimated in the elderly because infections can be difficult to diagnose, some of them may present atypically or without febrile responses.

Yo lo interpreto así. El texto previo aclararía si realmente se están refiriendo a sus resultados o si están haciendo un comentario general sobre el hecho de que se subestima la frecuencia de infecciones nosocomiales. En este último caso sería algo como: "Sin embargo, es probable que la frecuencia de infecciones en el anciano se siga subestimando debido a que son difíciles de diagnosticar y algunas se pueden presentar de forma atípica o sin respuesta febril.
