Silver nitrate Explanation: I remember a teacher at school who told us that they use that on baby's eyes as soon as they are born in case the mother suffer an STD, but I can't remember exactly what disease it was, I'm researching though. I hope this helps... sil·ver ni·trate noun white compound for photography and medicine: a white poisonous light-sensitive compound used in photographic emulsions, as a chemical reagent, and in medicine as an antiseptic and astringent. I found it! It's gonorrhea... Explanation: Take a look at this... Eye drops or ointment containing an antibiotic medication are placed in a newborn’s eyes after birth. This is required by law to protect the baby from an unknown gonorrhea infection in the mother’s body. Antibiotics are used in most hospitals. Another preparation, called silver nitrate, is sometimes used. Reference: http://www.med.utah.edu/healthinfo/pediatric/Newborn/prodeye... |
