El verbo averiguar admite la construcción directa con un un objeto directo, en este caso "averiguar las oportunidades de empleo y las posibilidades de transporte".

Para introducir una preposición me parece más adecuada la construcción "hacer averiguaciones sobre/acerca de", aunque no es imprescindible.

Colegas hispanoparlantes, ¿de verdad se dice "averiguar sobre"? En la búsqueda http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q="averiguar +de&btnG=Goo... vi que los primeros "hits" son traducciones del inglés y por eso no sé si es 100% correcto. Inquiring minds would like to know.
