Mi hámster tuvo hijos Explanation: First of all, a clarification. The word is not "cuyo" (a province in Argentina), but "cuy" or "cuyi". Second of all, a "cuyi" is not a hamster, but a guinea pig, a bigger kind of rodent. Hamster in Spanish is just "hámster". The word is German. |

Mi hámster ha parido Explanation: Parir is the direct verb for giving birth; "ha tenido crías" is OK but sounds slightly affected, like someone who wishes to avoid "parir" in order to(mistakenly) seem more refined. This would be valid in Spain. If you choose "parir" and are translating into South American Spanish, please check whether "parir" has any undue connotation in the target country. Mi hámster ha tenido crías Explanation: Seeing as the hamster has had various baby hamsters this is the best way to say it. Crías means baby animals and avoids confusion with human babies etc. You are completely right about the grammar: mi for my hámster with an accent Good luck with your project. |
