Explanation:
Pot hace referencia al "material", i no al "producto final"
(es decir, porro es siempre, en slang: Porro = Joint)

depending on the "spanish" variation, as it is indeed slang.

Mota = mexican, but for example, many places in south america (i.eg. Perú, Argentina, ) would be "hierba". Más allà de Mexico, muchos lo entenderian, pero en general es "megicano"

"Maria" as shorter for "Marihuana" viene claramente de españa, pero también está muy extendido y se entiende en gran parte de America Latina.

Si tuviera que arriesgar hacia un termino panamericano o "latino neutro" apostaria por "hierba", si queda claro en contexto
