Explanation:
This seems to me the best way to translate it because after the child has been through a bad situation, he/she not only needs physical nurturing but spiritual nurturing as well. Nurturing the body will make him/her fat and healthy but nurturing the spirit will bring around healing of the mind and soul. As for reassurance, we can say confianza, reasegurar and a bunch of other discriptive words. But, what I believe will make a person,especially a child completely whole, is to have their trust in humanity restored. They must also feel protected, of course, after all, they depend on us adults for guidance, nurturing and protection. Sadly, it´s an adult, more often than not, who ends up hurting them.

Alimento, protección y confianza.


Explanation:
Nurturing, protection and reassurance= alimento, protección y confianza.

Si bien éstos tres vocablos tienen acepciones varias, en éste contexto me inclino por éstas tres. Además, me parece que suenen bien cuando se las lee juntas.

Explanation:
"El niño es un ser indefenso quien necesita educación, protección y reafirmaciones que le den confianza."

En este caso creo que una buena opción para "nurture", es la que da el Simon & Schuster's= educar.

y para "reassurances" la que da el mismo diccionario: afirmaciones constantes y repetidas que provocan seguridad, confianza, tranquilidad o satisfacción.
