policia para mantener el orden (o paz) - policia de pacificasion

Explanation:
"oficial" pertains to the military ie: military officer - you'd need to use policia if you're talking about the type of police force we have here in the US. Ojala te sirva! Suerte!

policía

Explanation:
peace officer: funcionario encargado de mantener la paz y el orden público. I would use agente de policía and not oficial de policía, as as you may know, most of the police forces in LA are militarized, that is they have officers and enlisted men, so an "oficial de policía" would be someone in the officer's ranks only.

Just agreeing with NNieto

Explanation:
oficial de seguridad pública is a perfect translation here.

oficial is fine. For example, in México, we have oficiales de tránsito, oficiales de seguridad pública, who are divided in to several corporations (policía bancaria e industrial, policía de seguridad pública, policía auxiliar, etc.) all belonging to one set, oficiales de seguridad pública.

Oficial does not necessarily have a military context in Mexico at least.

Best of luck on your translation.
