¡Dios santo! Tantos años viviendo en Canadá y nunca había oido esta expresión, que se me antoja debe ser más que habitual, y eso que casi todas las casa en las que he vivido tenían un "living-cum-dining". En cualquier caso me poneís en un compromiso porque todas las respuestas me son útiles. Elijo ésta únicamente porque es la que he acabado utilizando, ya que es así como se dice en España.

Ejemplo del mismo uso en otro contexto:

Pues sí, Imanol, el "cum" aquí significa "con", "junto con", como ya lo han dicho, sólo para agregar que en México les llaman: Sala-comedor o sin el guión: sala comedor.
