I'm a little bit confuse with this construction here. This is the context: The animal will never be either a subject nor a Dasein. It doesn't have an unconscious either (Freud), nor a relation to the other, any more than there is an animal face (Lévinas). It is from the standpoint of Dasein that Heidegger defines the humanity of man".

Leí el texto original buscando en Google y me reafirmo en mi respuesta. Si lees un párrafo más arriba dice: "Lévinas [...](was convinced) that the animal does not have a face". Y un poco más abajo se repite de forma similar: "Levinas resists the
idea of according the animal an ethical status as it does not,
unlike humans, have a face that commands responsibility".

Así que Derrida, que está de acuerdo con Lévinas, tambien niega la existencia de la "animal face".

CarmenHaydee: Juan Arturo, la frase "nada mas que" es una expresion idiomatica" la cual aqui va muy bien. No es una traduccion literal. Si asi fuera seria "no mas que" lo cual no va en este contexto. Es lo mismo que decir "como tampoco" de otro modo pero lo mismo!:)

-> Hola Carmen, la respuesta de Juan Arturo es la de abajo(aunque estoy de acuerdo con él). Al menos en español europeo, poner aquí "nada más que" implica afirmación, existe sólo la cara animal, pero el original dice que NO existe. Un saludo.

Este es el sentido de la frase "any more than". Por ejemplo, con esta frase.

"You are not an animal, any more than you are an angel."

O sea, no eres animal, y en ese mismo grado tampoco eres un ángel.

Es una fórmula para expresar como algo no es ni una ni otra cosa, en igual grado.
