Bien, Caro.
¡Gracias!

agree  Refugio: velatorio...'or wake' implies that the two are synonymous, although in practice a wake more often takes place away from the funeral home.

agree  JaneTranslates: I hear "velorio" far more often--and I agree with Ruth that "viewing" and "wake" are synonymous, though with slightly different connotations. So it might work, in María Eugenia's translation, to use both these terms, or any two terms in common usage.

agree  JaneTranslates: Yes--maybe M.E. could write "velorio o capilla ardiente." What do you think?
2 mins
  -> Thank you Jane. After some research I now think that 'velorio' is the process (of waking / viewing) while 'capilla ardiente' is just the scene. But I'm not sure. :)

viewing = velatorio / wake = ceremonia

Explanation:

See http://www.beitam.org/burial.html for a traditional Jewish Burial ( no \"viewing\", but a ceremony) and for \"wake\" http://www.history-magazine.com/facts.html
