he walked over to Gracie’s gravesite. He was surprised that he found the plot so quickly. It was a small, inexpensive marker, the kind for which you settle when the high-pressure sales tactics fail and the salesman needs to move on.

If customer still refuses to purchase the particular product that they care to unload, then they move on to the next step in order to still make the successful sale of product. The tumbstone marker appeared to be ordinary, and not fancy, probably one that was just "settled on" due to salesman wanting to make a sale of some kind to customer (who needed a tumbstone market for lost loved one..........
