This is the context in which the phrase appears:

I saw my mother kneel beside him.
She started chanting and rocking, to and fro
and with a breath, she pulled up
his limp torso, and placed his head
on her shoulder, her tiny arms
barely linked around the width
of his muscular back.

How would you translate it? I´m open to any suggestion! Thanks!
