The bed was still unmade from whenever he'd slept in it last, and clothes were strewn on the floor like a hurricane had just blown through. And he'd been right- it did, indeed, have and odor. But I was less inclined to blame its onetime residents for than that the vile-smelling potions that lined a shelf on one wall.

Mi propuesta, aunque relamente no entiendo su significado:
La cama aún estaba deshecha desde que él había dormido en ella la última vez y la ropa estaba esparcida por el suelo como si hubiera acabado de pasar un huracán por allí. Y él había estado bien, de hecho, tenía un perfume. Pero me inclinaba menos por echarles la culpa a sus residentes de una sola vez por eso que a las pociones malolientes que llenaban una estantería en una de las paredes.
