Saludos!

Una duda muy pequeña.

No he logrado encontrar e significado de "proper" como suistantivo en esta frase.

"Come by if you find another one of those" (old hundred dollar bills)

"I might" First see what he could get in Boston proper.

Al tipo le ofrecen cierta cantidad de dinero en un banco,.. pero resuelve consultar en otro lugar antes de hacer el cambio.

Quiere decir que queda precisamente en Boston, y no en algún suburbio del mismo. Muchas ciudades viejas crecen hacia afuera, pero la gente sigue refiriéndose a las zonas aledañas con el nombre de la ciudad.

Otras opciones: exactamente en Boston, precisamente en Boston, en la zona vieja de Boston, en la zona original de Boston.

agree  MonicaSLS: me parece que vale la pena tener en cuenta esta posibilidad. La única otra sugerencia hasta ahora no me convence. El propio Boston sería Boston itself, no Boston proper.

disagree  Wendy Petzall: si fuera la tienda, sería Boston Proper (en mayúsculas), no proper... La expresión "Boston itself" es idéntica a "Boston proper" y significan lo que sugiere Ricardo.

agree  Sandra Cifuentes Dowling: Exactamente. Proper es adjetivo (en el sentido de "propiamente tal"), no sustantivo. Es común la expresión "in the city proper" (en la misma ciudad, en la ciudad propiamente dicha). :)
