English term or phrase: Pizza ends and tossed tortilla chips

Take notice: Specially addressed to American natives!

I am working on an American novel. The main character and his brother are poor. Very poor. And their father doesn't take good care of them, so they have to feed themselves.

At one point, as they prepare to go out on their search for food, the older brother asks the little one:

«Pizza ends or tossed tortilla chips?»

Then he suggests they will first hit the Dumpsters and then head over to the mini-mart. They have next to no money, only a handful of coins, mostly pennies, they scooped up from a fountain.

My first question is: what do they mean with «pizza ends»? Do they mean pizza leftovers people threw in the garbage and they are going to pick up from the Dumpsters? Or are «pizza ends» something you could possibly by at a mini-mart with small change?

And my second question: what are «tossed tortilla chips»? Are this some kind of tortilla chips? Do they intend to buy them or is this something you could fish out from a Dumpster?

Asker: Gracias Benjamín, pero es evidente que no has leído bien mi explicación. Tu respuesta no me sirve para nada.

Asker: Perdón, lo que dices de los Pizza parlors y restaurantes de comida mexicana sí me puede servir. Lo que no me sirve es eso de «orillas de pizza». Y los enlaces a la Wikipedia y al freedictionary te los podías haber ahorrado :-) Esas referencias las encuentran también mis sobrinitos.
