English to Spanish translations [PRO] Social Sciences - Psychology / marital and sexual therapy | | English term or phrase: brittle | Neither the Oxford nor the Collins Dictionary have the appropriate translation in this case. "brittle" in this case means: "lacking of warmth, depth, generosity of spirt" as explained in one of the meanings of the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. Is there one adjective or another way of stating this in Spanish besides simply translating the meaning I just gave?
TIA
At our retreat for lesbian couples we found it particularly destroyed sexual interest.) We offer additional sessions for couples who can’t feel each other. Their remarkably consistent responses are illustrated by one couple I remember clearly. The wife had great difficulty slowing her touch. She was “brittle” and never let anyone hold her, physically or emotionally. The daughter of Jewish refugees who barely escaped during World War II, she was riddled with anxiety. She moved her hand woodenly against her husband, who had his own history of problems with touch: as an adolescent he had contracted a disease that destroyed his athletic career and isolated him from human touch for many months. After several minutes of the wife stroking her husband’s hand, an instant arrived when it looked like she had allowed herself to touch him. At that moment, the man burst into tears! In finally feeling the connection they had always wanted, they experienced the pain of what they’d missed. When people finally make contact the usual reaction is tears of joy and more respect for sex. (Several days later other couples at the retreat spontaneously remarked how much softer and approachable they both seemed.) |

45 mins confidence: peer agreement (net): +1 muy crispada / nerviosa / hipertensa
Explanation: Hi Michael, to be honest I have never heard your definition (although being British might explain this!). My impression is that the woman is brittle as in very nervous / highly strung.
-------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 hrs (2009-04-23 19:41:54 GMT) --------------------------------------------------
From the Oxford Thesaurus:
a brittle young woman: EDGY, nervy, anxious, unstable, highly strung, tense, excitable, skittish, neurotic; informal uptight, jumpy.
