En cuanto al sentido de la estrofa que escogiste, alude a alentar a los hijos a que sean buenas personas (teach your children well), dejando a un lado el pasado triste de su padre. Dice que el infierno de su padre pareció durar más de lo que duró (did slowly go by). Comparte tus sueños con ellos (feed them on your dreams). La ultima parte me tiene totalmente confundida, por mucho tiempo yo pensaba que decía "the one they pick's the one you'll know dies", que yo creia que queria decir que los padres no les pueden escoger el futuro a los hijos.
