Putting out fleeces - fleecing us

Wordplay on "fleece." "Fleece," as a noun, is the sheared wool from a sheep or goat. "To fleece," as a verb, is to cheat someone. Noun: "vellón." Verb: "defraudar."

So, it's in Satan's interest to encourage us to waste time "putting out fleeces," instead of going ahead with God's work. Satan is "fleecing us"--cheating us, tricking us into doing what he wants.
"Putting out a fleece" is, of course, a reference to Gideon's putting out a dry fleece and asking God to make it wet and vice versa--as Carlos points out, it's from Judges 6. Gideon was asking for a sign to verify that God really wanted him to do the task that Gideon already knew he ought to do. Lots of controversy about whether God approved of Gideon's action and about whether Christians ought to emulate it. I'm assuming your author disapproves of asking God for signs--at least, of doing it to excess.
