En el diccionario de sin¨®nimos de la Universidad de Oviedo, resistir es sin¨®nimo de oponerse, aguantar, soportar durante un periodo largo de tiempo, combatir las pasiones, etc.

Tolerar es sin¨®nimo de sufrir, soportar, permitir algo sin aprobarlo expresamente, respetar las opiniones de los dem¨¢s, soportar una persona medicinas, alimentos u otras sustancias.

Creo que sufrir incluye los matices de resistir, aguantar, soportar y tolerar.

Pienso que ser¨ªa m¨¢s apropiado en este contexto, aunque no descarto las propuestas anteriores.
