En espaniol cuando se habla del quarter boat que esta sobre cubierta al lado del pescante (davits) listo para zarpar, se le conoce normalmente por su funcion mas que por su ubicacion en el barco, por ello muchos le dicen bote de rescate o bote de rescate rapido.

1 Embarcaciones de supervivencia
Cuando una embarcación mercante durante su travesía tiene algún siniestro –ya sea
por chocar con otra embarcación (abordaje); por tocar fondo (encallar); por atascarse
en un barranco (embarrancar); por fallas estructurales o por incendio y explosión- que
implique su abandono inmediato, el medio primario de evacuación y salvamento de la
tripulación es a través de las embarcaciones de supervivencia, (véase Figura 1). Este
concepto comprende botes salvavidas, balsas salvavidas y toda otra embarcación que
haya sido aprobada como idónea para la protección y la preservación de personas en
tales circunstancias, como bien pudieran ser los botes de rescate. Para los propósitos
del presente trabajo sólo se considerará el caso de los botes salvavidas.

Aquí encontrarás la definición en inglés por si te sirve. Parece ser que es un bote de reserva que se lleva colgado de las grúas (davits) pero no sé como se llama en español.
