English term or phrase: evening (en este contexto)
We wondered whether we should have an evening devoted to recalling those days of horror and bloodshed during the military regime, or should we remain completely silent on the subject?

Alguna sugerencia? Muchas gracias!

agree  Michael Powers (PhD): de acuerdo - "velada" muchas veces tiene conotación positiva - Oxford (period of entertainment) velada f (frml), noche f; we felt like an evening of bridge teníamos ganas de pasar una noche jugando al bridge; one of their famous musical - Mike :)

neutral  Robert Forstag: I am not sure how this would fit into an actual Spanish sentence. It would have to be "tener/hacer una noche dedicada a..." , neither of which are idiomatic in Spanish. "Celebrar" would sound odd. The positive connotation of velada would rule it out....

agree  Manupi: me parece bien.

Explanation:
un momento

Although it´s a meeting much longer than a moment, the idea is: a moment of silence where refelction takes place out of respect for the bloodshed.

Explanation:
I don't think that using "una noche" implies that the meeting lasted the *entire* night....

dedicar una tarde a conmemorar esos dias... VER

Explanation:
Suerte !!

(celebrar una reunión) al final del día

Explanation:
We wondered whether we should have an evening devoted to recalling those days of horror and bloodshed during the military regime, or should we remain completely silent on the subject?

Suerte!
