The most common term in the UK for "pase en profundidad" or "al vacío" is "through pass", though "tunnel pass and "piercing pass" are both correct. The term "forward pass" is really used in rugby and American football, where it is regulated (in rugby it is illegal). But in football (soccer), it is not a term you hear much. As Wikipedia says: "In some football codes, such as association football (soccer), the forward pass is used so ubiquitously that it is not thought of as a distinct kind of play at all."

It is not used as a straight synonym of through pass; in principle, not all forward passes are through passes.
