En Chile al memos, cuando se traduce este término, lo usan como grupo focal. En http://www.adlatina.com/ hay un glosario de términos publicitarios, en el cual se define grupo focal como: "Traducción del término inglés focus group. Es una forma de investigación cualitativa, mediante entrevista personal, en la que se reúne un grupo de 8 a 12 personas que tengan las características deseadas, y se les pregunta sus opiniones sobre una cuestión, idea o producto." (http://www.adlatina.com/html/glosario/glosarioG.php3)
Tal vez existan otras acepciones en otros lados del mundo, pero cuidado con usar el "grupo objetivo" que vi en algunas sugerencias, porque eso corresponde a "target group".
