English to Spanish translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering
English term or phrase:XML markup
XML stands for Extensible Markup Language: though its syntax is tag based, like in HTML, the set of tags can be expanded. XML users can create their own tags which conform to the content of the document. Tags are brackets and text inside them. There are tags that open a sentence, and ones that close it. As the XML markup in fact reflects the content of the document, it can be used as a universal format for any applications. This makes XML, as a document markup language, even more important and useful.
Explanation: In this case "markup" refers to the "marks" or "codes" used to format an XML file.
I prefer "codificación XML" like in this quote from the 1st ref site: "...puede utilizar la **codificación XML** para efectuar búsquedas inteligentes..."
But I have also seen it as "marcas XML" which doesn't sound as good to me since in Spanish a "marca" is more generally understood to mean "a brand name" like IBM, Sony, etc. Example from the 2nd site: "...La concisión en las **marcas XML** es de mínima importancia."
Explanation: El término, como muchos otros neologismos de la red internet no ha
encontrado concenso. Aunque el término markup (marcado) aparece desde los origenes de la red en html hemos preferido no usarlo en lengua hispana.
