En su conocida acepción del Diccionario de la Real Academia

" cubierta de la punta o extremo de una cosa", por ejemplo de un tubo como el tuyo

Puede valer "tapón" (que, en general esconde la idea de objeto circular/cilíndrico),pero no tapa (las tapas pueden tener formas varias, no sólo circulares)

Tecnicamente, lo ideal es la generalización a este caso del uso de "opérculo" ya que éste es una "pieza generalmente redonda que, a modo de tapadera, sirve para cerrar ciertas aberturas, como las de las agallas...."
