Estuve leyendo las respuestas anteriores dadas para este termino, pero ninguna me parecia que iba con mi contexto. Necesito saber cual es la diferencia entre COATING Y CASING. el contexto es el siguiente: "The main reason is the concern of shorted casings, which leave the carrier pipe within the casing without cathodic protection. The original reason for casings was to avoid having to open trench streams, roads, railroads, and various other obstacles. Some coatings were not always sufficiently abrasive resistant to be pulled directly through a bore hole without sustaining severe damage to the corrosion coating. Fusion-bonded epoxy offered the best solution because it has a harder and smoother finish, but this coating also suffers from damage when pulled through rocky areas."

Cuando se fabrican cañerías de conducción de fluidos (gas, petróleo, etc.), normalmente se las arma con un casing (caño exterior de protección) y un tubing (caño interno de conducción). El casing (así se lo usa toda la industria en Argentina) debe, a su vez, estar protegido contra agentes corrosivos externos. El coating (cobertura o protección) es una capa de protección mecánica (epoxi, películas bituminosas y aluminio, etc.), además de la protección catódica (para evitar corrosión por conducción eléctrica de estática).
