She started in the Sewing Department and stayed there her entire career. She was a very skilled sewer and adapted to many changes in her department over the years.
¿Cómo traducirían sewer en este caso? No creo que sea costurera pues solo cosen.

La modista tiene como oficio confeccionar prendas de vestir, incluyendo su patronaje, corte y costura. La costurera, por otro lado, tiene por oficio coser, o cortar y coser, ropa blanca y algunas prendas de vestir. En el contexto de una fábrica, considero más adecuado costurera.
En cuanto al cualificativo, me gusta avezada, aunque podría ser asimismo hábil, habilidosa, diestra, experta, cualificada, capaz. etc.
