English to Swahili translations [PRO] General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters | | English term or phrase: cousin | | As in my question about nephew/niece, I would like to know if you use the same word in Swahili for a child of your aunt or uncle regardless of the person's gender (like the English word "cousin") or if you need to specify female cousin versus male cousin by the word you choose. |
| | | binamu | Explanation: Binamu is the term for a cousin of any gender. However the generic term ndugu-relative, comrade, kin- is also widely used. |
