En förändring av den tredimensionella strukturen hos en molekyl som inte innebär någon kemisk reaktion utan endast rotation kring enkelbindningar, vilket i större skala kan leda till ändrade veckningsmönster. Inom biokemin avser man vanligen en förändrad konformation hos en proteinmolekyl, som kan uppkomma genom förändringar i den omgivande miljön, t.ex. pH-förändringar eller bindning till en annan molekyl (ligand).
Konformationsförändringen kan ofta påverka proteinets biologiska aktivitet, t.ex. leda till att ett enzym aktiveras.
Även benämningen "konformationsändring" förekommer, men jag skulle säga att den längre varianten är vanligare. |
