These are forensic policmen or agents and I don't know what a probie is. Could be probationer or someone who probes?

Explanation:
there is also a term "probie" for someone who is new to the field. possibly from a combination of pro (profesionell) and newbie (nykomling) . See refs. for both a forum where the "probies" can express themselves and also a class for the probies.
