Det är näst intill hopplöst när du inte ger mer kontext. Kristians förslag är förstås bra i de flesta fall, men jag vill ändå påpeka att man i vissa sammanhang använder "emergens" på svenska och även talar om "emergent programmering" (lite förenklat "program som skriver sig själva").
