| English term or phrase: The floating labyrinth oil seals | The floating labyrinth oil seals förekommer i en handbok för en synkrongenerator i avsnittet om undersökning och återmontering (efter demontering):
Repeat the steps above for the second bearing, so that the rotor is resting in the two bearing liners in their housings but WITHOUT the bearing top caps fitted. At this stage it is important that the two liners be aligned in their spherical seats. Do this by tapping both housings smartly several times with a soft faced hammer, preferably both together but, if this is not practicable, sequentially is acceptable. This alignment can only be done during assembly, because once the top halves of the housings are bolted up, the liners are locked and are designed not to move in service. If this alignment is not done, the bearings may run hot.
10. Assemble the seals. The floating labyrinth oil seals should have a bead of non-setting sealing compound (preferably Curil 'T') applied to the outsides of the rib that forms the location for the garter spring. The gap seals that make up the air seals either side of the bearing should have NO sealant applied.
The floating labyrinth oil seals should be assembled round the shaft and secured with their garter springs. Note that the bottom half seals have axial holes drilled to drain oil back into the bearing and thus these holes must face the bearing. The top half seal has an anti-rotation lug. The bottom half seal carrier (to which sealant should already have been applied) is fitted over the oil seal and rotated into position. It is bolted LOOSELY to the bearing housing at this stage. The gap seals are fitted into their respective grooves, a garter spring threaded round each and secured.
