Third angle projection was formerly known as 'Amerikansk projektion' however the more suitable name 'tredje kvadarantens projektionsmetod' I believe is preferred, as it is a descriptive translation of the drawing method.
Europeisk projektion is what we call 'first angle projektion' or 'första kvadarantens projektionsmetod'.
The two should not be mixed up as the first angle projektion is the mirror turned view from the third angle.
Kjell-Erik you are wrong but still right one can argue, as both first angle- and third angle projection is a drawing of all three dimensions x,y and z, however the result is a 2d drawing of an object viewed from 3 different directions.

I Langenscheidts Fachwörterbuch Technik Englisch-Deutsch hittade jag följande:
"Third angle projectin method" = Projektionsmethode
"Third angle system" = amerikanische Projektion.
Därefter slog jag på amerikansk projektion och fann följande på Google:
"MASKINRITNING
SYFTE OCH MÅLSÄTTNING
Utbildningen syftar till att ge kunskap om:
Grunderna för hur maskinritningar, med europeisk och amerikansk projektion, är uppgjorda, (...)"
Detta är kanske lite långsökt, men tydligen finns det något som heter amerikansk projektion, åtminstone inom flygplansindustrin
