English term or phrase: the devil is in the details
I'm translating a training manual for IT managers where the authors seem to enjoy using sayings. This is the heading of a unit dealing with the implementation of Service Management within IT. Is there a good Swedish equivalent?

agree  EKM: This is a brilliant translation. "Djävulen finns i detaljerna" is not in common use, and will give off the text as a translation.

disagree  Michele Fauble: "The devil is in the details" means that it is the details of some endeavor that make it difficult. There is no implication that the details are small.// I have provided references (and others can easily be found) that demonstrate less restricted use.

-> the asker requested a good (=well known) Swedish equivalent, not a literal Swenglish translation. The use of "djävul" in Swedish is restricted to either religion or very foul language.

It has been pointed out that this expression is not in common use in Swedish. The fact that it occcurs in so many variants in Swedish would also seem to suggest that this is, in fact, the case.

The expression "the devil is in the details" carries no implication that the details are small (although they may be). The expression has often been used in reference to such things as arms reduction treaties, trade agreements, a peace treaty between Israel and the Palestinians, etc., where the details can hardly be considered "small".

agree  Bo Soderholm: Korrekt, eller, vilket jag tror är vanligare, "Djävulen bor i detaljerna", har inget med "..små, små detaljerna" att göra!
