Sammanhanget är en populärvetenskaplig bok om geologi. Det gäller begbildning vid kollisioner mellan kontinentalplattor. Generellt talar de om att det då bildas "thrust and fold mountains", men i en bildtext särskiljs de två typerna: "Thrust mountains and fold mountains form when two continents collide. a) Thrust mountains: layers of rock thrust on top of each other as continents collide. b) Fold mountains: upper layers of rock erode, exposing folded rocks below."
På svenska känner jag bara till veckberg. Vad kan "thrust mountains" kallas? |
