Idioms / Maxims / Sayings
English term or phrase: time hung heavy on his hands
Definition from http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/

Time hangs heavy on someone's hands.

Prov. Time seems to go slowly when one has nothing to do. (Note the variations in the examples.) I don't like it when time hangs so heavily on my hands. John looks so bored. Time hangs heavy on his hands.

I would need this idiom translated into Swedish, either generally or in this context:

"Charles XII, however, was a very active monarch and found that time hung heavy on his hands."

Thank you
S.L.
tiden släpade sig fram [för honom]
Explanation:
Detta tycker jag är en rätt idiomatisk översättning.

*tiden tyngde* is another possible expression. I haven't found *tiden tyngde hans händer*, but *tiden tyngde på hans gamla nacke* and *tiden tyngde axlarna*.
