When the pumping operation is finished, the routine operation is to reverse the pump a couple of seconds in order to empty the hoses, relieve the pressure and make it possible to safely disconnect the hoses. This short time pump reversing is allowed, and the pump is equipped with a push-button that must be kept depressed for reversing. The pump must stop immediately when the button is released. A PC pump must have two independent safety systems to prevent dead heading or dry running. Typically, these safeties are installed to work for the normal direction of flow through the pump. For reverse flow direction, there are no safeties installed, because the pump is only meant to run for a few seconds." |
