Det tycks mig efter en del googlande som att "boxcar average" och "moving average" är i stort sett utbytbara termer i ditt fall, och jag undrar om du inte snarare letar efter just en översättning av "boxcar average". I sådant fall skulle glidande medelvärde vara den svenska termen. "Boxcar average" används ju om utjämning av kurvor vid PCR-analyser som i SmartCycler:

Detta kan jämföras med andra PCR-analyssystem som Mx3000P som använder "moving average" för att beskriva samma funktion:

Skulle jag översätta meningen skulle jag skriva något i stil med "glidande medeltal för cykler".
