Jag gissar att "semis" är samma sak som semi steel och där har jag hittat följande om framställningsprocessen:
"Cast iron (not steel) of high quality, obtained by using a large percentage of steel scrap with the pig iron."
Jag har hittat uttrycket halvstål men vet inte om det är samma sak.
