"The normal use of the Cockpit mode is cruising or navigating"
"The Cockpit screen is for driving purposes. Besides showing the map, it contains some additional travel information if you are just cruising (speed, current street, speed limit for the current street) and some more route data if you are navigating."

Såvitt jag förstår kallas det alltså för "cruising" när man använder GPS:en utan att följa en speciell rutt, men vad skulle man kunna kalla detta på svenska?

Explanation:
Tyvärr kan man ju inte översätta till "kryssning" då blir det ju något helt annat.
(Här i Västerås är vi ju bekanta med fenomenet, en del av cruisingstråket på PowerMeet går förbi vårt radhusområde - men en sömnlös natt om året är det värt :-)
