How do you calculate power for the binomial test?

First you must begin with hypotheses for the probability of success, p. Power is the probability that you will reject the null hypothesis if the alternative hypothesis is true. For example, suppose that these are your hypotheses:
Ho: p = .42
HA p = .70

The steps involved in calculating power are: (1) Determine the critical value for a test of H0. To do this, set p = .42 and calculate the probability in the tail of the distribution. You can then determine the numbers of successes that are needed in order to be in the rejection region, built so that the area of this region does not exceed the proportion a of the total area. (2) Determine power by calculating the probability of exceeding the critical value calculated in step 1, but this time using p = .70. If you wish to calculate a power curve, you simply keep changing the alternative hypothesis, the number of participants, or the maximum Type I error rate, while holding other variables constant
