AP - "Auto-provisioning", is the computer-assisted provisioning of subscriber computers and modems, using only the data service for communication from the subscriber premises.
There are four primary motivations for auto-provisioning: reduction of human-introduced error, better scaling of equipment provisioning, modification of equipment provisioning by subscribers, and future installation options. Eliminating the field technician phone call avoids the possibility of information corruption, and reduces the number of support employees required for each installation. Subscribers themselves might use the provisioning tools: in the near-term they can swap computers or Ethernet interfaces with minimal assistance, and in the long-term they can provision and install their own service without the aid of a field technician."
