I have a question regarding correct capitalization in Tagalog, I have looked for a style guide or a set of rules but I have not been able to find an answer.
Here is the question: in English, titles and headings use "title case", with the first letter of every word in the title using a capital letter. For example, "This Is A Title". In most other languages (for example, French and many European languages), this is wrong and we only capitalize the first letter of the title.
What is the rule in Tagalog? Should a title be written with capital letters to every word or only the first letter of the title? Which is the correct capitalization for the paragraph title below:
1. Mga Di Detalyado pero Aktibong Pag-iisip Tungkol sa Pagpapakamatay
Di detalyadong mga kaisipang di tuon sa hangaring
tapusin ang sariling buhay [...]
or:
1. Mga di detalyado pero aktibong pag-iisip tungkol sa pagpapakamatay
Di detalyadong mga kaisipang di tuon sa hangaring
tapusin ang sariling buhay [...]

I am not sure whether or not we actually have written rules about capitalization for titles and headings, however, based on experience, we usually capitalize all the words on the title EXCEPT the conjuctions and prepositions (pangatnig at pang-ugnay, like, for example: at, ng, sa, mga). In the case of the title in question, I would put it this way:
Mga Di-detalyado ngunit Aktibong Pag-iisip Tungkol sa Pagpapakamatay.
We basically follow the English "rule" except that we capitalize only the big words. Please also see that I have used "ngunit" instead of "pero", opting for a stronger and more formal version of the title.
I dont know if this helps but this is what I think.

Actually, you can also capitalize the word "NGUNIT" for this title. I would probably do that, atleast. |
