disagree  Nagasamy: rambam is known as 'aram' in Tamil. Saw is known as vaaL. So, power hacksaws could be called 'yendhira vaaL'..

neutral  Ramesh Madhavan: Vaal has a sharp edge without undulations. [Eg. Kaththi, Aru-vaal or even Kodali]. Saw has an undulated (wave like) edge.

"ratchasa rambam"

Explanation:
"power hacksaws" means "minsaarathil iyangum raatchasa rambangal"

"raatchasa" is a figurative word used to denote that the size is very big; "hacksaws" are those saws that have bigger teeth and hence are capable of sawing and hacking rougher and thicker materials than the ordinary saws.

disagree  Narendran: Raatchasa is not required I guess. Simple RAMBAM will do .Power hacksaw can be said as perum/sakthuvainda/minsara RAMBAM. How do feel Mr.Gopalan

-> I agree. "veLi/puRa saktiyaal iyangum rambam" will be more appropriate.

neutral  Ramesh Madhavan: Rakshasan is not a Tamil word. I suggest Arakkan. Saws need not be powered only through Electricity. We use Pneumatics (compressed air) to power the saws. We need to use a word for "Energy" or "Energised" before "Rambam".

->  "rakshasan" is Sanskrit." ratchasan", the Tamilised form is in extensive use in Tamil. ( In Rajaji's "Ramayanam", he has used this word extensively.) I agree that electricity is not the only energy used in operating hacksaws.

Minrambam, Minrambangal

Explanation:
"Min": The normal expression used in Tamil for "electric" Eg: Min-saaram : meaning Electric - Power. I would still like to use another word for "Min", which will be general word meaning "Energy driven". If someone can suggest a term for this it will be great.

Rambam: Saw, Hacksaw etc...
Rambangal: Plural for the above.

disagree  gopalan balachandhran: Translation is asked for "hacksaw". Hence, the Tamil equivalent should be confined to the same. More can be added in the explanatory note.
