this is an operation method where natural lens inside the eye is removed and replaced with man made lenses. a treatment method for macular degeneration. ( please note this is not laser eye correction or contact lenses)

வில்லை என்பது lens ஐ குறிக்கவும் பயன்படுத்தப்படுகிறது. வில்லை என்பது "துண்டு" என்பதைக் குறிக்கவும் பயன்படுத்தப்படுகிறது.So here it not specific. So it has been accepted to use the translitetrated word "லென்ஸ்" for lens. This will be more understandable for a common man.
So this word has been widely used in tamilnadu govt school and college text books. (ref : tamilnadu goverment 12th std bio zoology textbook page78)

Even the tamil virtual university also shows the word "லென்ஸ்"

for eg if we translate cofee from english to tamil as குளம்பி/கொட்டை வடிநீர் (pure tamil words) then it will look odd and will not be understandable to common man. So here we have to use காப்பி/ காஃபி (transliterated word)
