"...การควบรวมกิจการมีรูปแบบที่หลากหลายกว่านั้น รากศัพท์ในภาษาอังกฤษที่มีความหมายตรงกับการควบรวมกิจการนั้นคือ Merger and Acquisition หรือเรียกกันสั้น ๆ ว่า M&A ความหมายที่ แท้จริงของ M&A ก็คือ การรวมบริษัทหรือกิจการตั้งแต่ 2 บริษัทขึ้นไป ซึ่งโดยปกติถ้าใช้คำว่า Merger จะหมายความถึง การรวมกิจการด้วยความสมัครใจและความยินยอมของผู้ถือหุ้นทั้ง 2 ฝ่าย อาจเป็นการแลกหุ้นกัน โดยผลที่ได้มักจะรวมกลายเป็นบริษัทใหม่ ตัวอย่างในประเทศไทยก็คือ การ Merge กันของบริษัทเคเบิลทีวี IBC และ UTV กลายเป็น UBC ในปัจจุบัน

ส่วนการ Acquisition นั้น จะหมายถึง การรวมกันของบริษัทตั้งแต่ 2 บริษัทขึ้นไป โดยบริษัทที่ต้องการควบรวมหรือที่เรียกว่า Acquirer จะเข้าไปซื้อหุ้นของบริษัทที่ถูกรวม หรือบริษัท Target ผลก็คือ บริษัทที่ถูกซื้อจะหายไป กลายเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของบริษัทที่เข้าซื้อ และถ้า การซื้อกิจการมีการคัดค้านของผู้ถือหุ้น หรือผู้บริหารบางส่วนของบริษัท Target จะเรียก การ Acquisition นั้นว่าเป็นการ Takeover หรือ Hostile Takeover ซึ่งตัวอย่างการ Acquisition ก็คือ การเข้าซื้อบริษัทหนังสือพิมพ์มติชน โดยบริษัท จีเอ็มเอ็ม นั่นเอง"

Explanation:
Now we are much familiar with Internet search e.g. Google search. I met this word in a number of instances but for legal/tax term, I propose this translation. This is combined now, not descriptive noun. That is, 'acquisition' (=acquiring of product etc.) + 'sale' (sale of product etc.), used in California Income Tax Law and Regulations. Other usage includes 'acquisition, sale,' 'acquisition/sale' etc. are frequent hits on Internet.
