English term or phrase: Tarkhan
Hi,

I'm trying to trace the Turkish version of the word “Tarkhan”. I should be surprised if it didn't exist, given that, in spite of what they say here, it looks very much to me as if “Tarkhan” is of Turkish origin.

Please see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarkhan

All the best,

it was a title

Explanation:
It was a title initiated by the Turkic state which existed in the territory of Mongolia in AD 551-747. Originally, the title was awarded to the people who served the Turkic state with distinction. Those who had this title were exempt from taxes. Later, the title changed into the title for tax-collectors. The tax-collector who had this title always carried an arrow with a golden head.

In my textbook, the title was written as "darkhan". The letter "d" and "t" are interchangeable in both Mongolian and Turkic languages.
